Arkansas’ Finest, a seventh-grade (13-and-under) boy’s basketball team featuring Brian Reed, Hunter Holder, Mitch Scoggins and Caleb Strain of Bryant, wrapped up an impressive 2009 season recently.
The team’s record within their age division was 31-5 this summer. According to coach James Scoggins, the team often played up in older age groups that included eighth and ninth grade teams, and posted an overall record of 42-13 including 19 games against teams outside their age division.[more]
The summer was highlighted by five tournament championships, including the Hoopfest State Championship, as well as five runner-up finishes, including the Old School Super Regional Showcase and YSA National Tournament.
In addition, the team received an invitation to the Prime Time National Tournament, the largest single-venue national championship in youth sports, Coach Scoggins said. Nearly 600 teams gathered in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to participate. The Arkansas’ Finest team went 3-0 to win its pool and posted a 5-1 record for the tournament, finishing ninth out of the 56 teams in the seventh-grade boys division.
The team also includes Blake Bowlin, Garrett King and Samonte Wallace of Benton; Hayden Burchfield of Harmony Grove; Larry Stephens of Little Rock Christian and Trenten Deloach of Little Rock Episcopal.
