Rodney Wright has announced his candidacy for Saline County Sheriff in the 2014 election.
He began his law enforcement career with the Benton Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 1994 and worked through the ranks. He currently holds the position of lieutenant of the Criminal Investigation Department. He graduated from the FBI National Academy for Law Enforcement, located in Quantico, Va., in 2011.
Wright was born and raised in Saline County. He and his wife, Kayce, have been married for 16 years and have two children, Sawyer and Samantha, who attend Benton Junior High. His father, the late Bill Wright, retired from Reynolds and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. Donna Wright, his mother, is a Realtor for Baxley Penfield Moudy. He has two sisters, Pam Bowden, who works for the State of Arkansas as a Field Auditor and Waynette Earhart, a Registered Nurse for Arkansas Heart Hospital. Randy, his brother, is a Captain with the Benton Fire Department.
Wright said he has always had a desire to run for Sheriff of Saline County.
“It just seems that the timing is right,” he said. “The citizens of Saline County deserve someone they can count on. One of my ultimate goals is the safety and security of each person who lives in, works in or visits this County. The County and its people deserve a sheriff that will invest all he has in each citizen regardless of their political disposition.”
Wright will seek the Republican nomination in the May primary.
