CINCINNATI — Travis Wood's next start is scheduled for this Friday but it may not be for the Louisville Bats, the Class AAA International League team he's playing for right now.
On Monday, the Bats' parent club, the Cincinnati Reds put 24-year-old right-handed starter Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list with right should inflammation. Bailey's next start was set to be on Friday when the Reds host the Houston Astros.[more]
With two stellar starts under his belt and an impressive showing in spring training for the Reds, Wood, the former Bryant star, is among a trio of pitchers that Bailey's replacement will be drawn from, according to cincinnatireds.com
Wood, it is said, is being considered along with his teammates Sam LeCure and Matt Maloney. LeCure was just named International League Pitcher of the Week, with 16 shutout innings over two starts for the Bats including a one-hit shutout against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning.
Wood also pitched well in his start against the Scranton/Wilkes Barre. He's now 2-4 overall with a 4.15 earned run average. In 56 1/3 innings, he has allowed 53 hits, walked 17 and struck out 57.
