PHOENIX, Ariz. — After a brief return to the Minor Leagues, Bryant's Travis Wood was back on the mound for the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night. The lefty improved to 4-1 with a 2.51 earned run average in the Major Leagues this season by allowing just four hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Caught in a numbers game, Wood had been sent down to Class AAA Louisville for one start in which he pitched two shutout innings before returning Thursday.
The win improved the Reds' lead in the National League Central to 3 1/2 games over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Wood's next start could come in San Francisco early next week.
