JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bryant's Travis Wood turned in another sparkling performance on the mound but got no decision for the Carolina Mudcats, the Class AA farm team of the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, July 9.
Wood pitched seven shutout innings against the Jacksonville Sun, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out nine. He also had a hit at the plate in two at-bats.
The game was scoreless for 10 innings. In the 11th, Carolina scored two runs. Jacksonville rallied to score in the bottom of the inning but the Mudcats held on for the win.
Wood, the Southern League leader in several categories including earned run average, lowered his ERA to 1.29 in 17 starts this season, 105 1/3 innings. He also raised his own batting average to .222 while holding opponents to a .193 average.
The left-hander has been named as the starting pitcher for the North Division team in the Southern League All-Star game to be held on Monday, July 13, at Birmingham, Ala.
