CABOT — Though the game got away late, the Bryant White Lady Hornets seventh grade team played the Cabot North Lady Panthers seventh grade close most of the way on Tuesday night as they continue to improve on the young season.
Though Cabot North wound up winning 31-20, the Lady Hornets were down just 20-18 going into the fourth quarter and trailed just 15-10 at the half.
“We won the third quarter,” acknowledged Lady Hornets coach Ben Perry. “The fourth quarter is what got us. They scored 12 points, mostly on free throws to win the game. The score started to increase with 1:30 left. We were able to cut it to 2 points difference and then, in the fourth quarter, we had to play extremely tough and Cabot made six free throws to extend their lead. They shot 11 free throws in the fourth quarter and made six of them.”
For the game, the Lady Panthers were 8 of 18 at the line. The Lady Hornets were 6 of 12.
“That was better than we had done in the past,” Perry noted.
Jayla Knight and Haya Winfield led Bryant White with 8 points each. Kylee Fleharty had 4.
“We were short four players due to school-related activities,” the coach noted.
“I thought the girls played their hearts out,” he added. “They showed much improvement on mistakes that we had made in previous games. They still made unforced errors and missed opportunities they were given. They are showing improvement every game that is the main focus right now.”
The game concluded the pre-Christmas schedule for the Lady Hornets, who will return to action on Jan. 6, 2018, against Little Rock Christian.
