HAMBURG — Cason Trickey pitched a two-hit shutout and the Bryant 10-year-old All-Stars erupted for seven runs in the third inning on the way to their second win at the Cal Ripken 10-and-under State Tournament on Sunday, an 11-0 win over the El Dorado All-Stars.
Bryant is set to play in the winners bracket final today at 1 p.m.
The Bryant 10’s, coached by Jeremy Stovall, include Garrison Blacklaw, Brady Brower, Reid Catton, Clay Crawford, Gage Horn, Grant Johnson, Gideon Motes, Justen Myles, Hank Penfield, Karter Ratliff, Caden Stovall and Cason Trickey.
Trickey struck out eight and walked just one in his four innings of mound work. El Dorado’s lone hits were a single to lead-off the game and a two-out base hit in the top of the third.
Bryant needed just six hits to take advantage of six walks in the game.
A four-run second put the Stars on top initially. A one-out walked to Blacklaw got things started. Motes singled to center and both moved up a base on an error. Blacklaw scored on a passed ball and Motes came in on Catton’s double to center.
Horn followed with a pop that fell in. He reached second but Catton had to hold at first when it was uncertain if the pop would be caught. He got to third but Horn hustled to second when El Dorado threw home expecting Catton to try to score.
With Brower at the plate, Catton raced home on a passed ball. Horn took third. After Brower walked and stole second. Ratliff picked up an RBI with a grounder to short to cap the scoring.
Trickey pitched around the two-out hit and a hit batsman in the top of the third and, in the home half, Bryant blew the game open.
Penfield’s single to left instigated the outbreak. He stole his way to third and, when Johnson lined out to right, tagged and scored.
A walk to Trickey set up the next run. Blacklaw got a sacrifice bunt down and when the throw to first sailed down the right-field line, Trickey sprinted all the way home.
Blacklaw wound up at second. He stole third at Motes drew a walk then scored on Catton’s groundout. Motes, who had swiped second and advanced to third, made it 8-0 when he crossed the plate on a passed ball as Horn was drawing a walk.
Horn swiped second as Myles drew a free pass ahead of Crawford’s double to right, which brought both runners around to score, making it 10-0.
Crawford scored the final tally when Stoval singled to center.
