RUSSELLVILLE — Dawson Oakley finished third, Michael Higgs fifth and Decatur Austin sixth to lead the Bryant Junior Hornets to the meet title in the junior boys division at the Cyclone Invitational today.
The Junior Hornets maintained their unbeaten season with the victory, finishing with 42 points. Cabot was a distant second with 82 points followed by Lake Hamilton (108), Russellville (136), and Little Rock Catholic (186). The meet included 19 teams and 288 runners competing on a two-mile course.
Oakley finished in a time of 11:22. Michael Higgs turned in an 11:32) with Austin right with him at 11:35.
Three more Junior Hornets finished in the top 20. Colby Harvey was 12th in 11:48, Chris Barrientos 14th in 11:50 and Jhorman Cruz 18th in 11:55. Edgar Tejada (22nd in 12:05) completed the team’s top seven.
“Another very good race for the junior boys,” stated Bryant coach Steve Oury. “I love the depth this team has. We’ve had a different lead runner in each of our three meets, and we have been able to put at least three runners in the top 10 in each meet so far.
“Now our top runners are going to go up in distance next week at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville,” he noted. “The junior high division runs a 5k at Chile Pepper, so it will be very interesting to see how we handle the bump in distance. I think we will have a chance to compete very well up there.”
