Around 2:45 this morning, an officer with the Bryant Police Department was traveling south on Highway 183 when he noticed a car pulling out of Griffis Road and heading south on 183 as well. He said the car then turned right onto Katrina Drive and, as the officer passed by, he noticed that the vehicle had turned its lights off while driving down the road. This alerted the officer, so he turned around and starting looking for the vehicle on Katrina Drive.
He noticed a Nissan Maxima sitting in a drive way and, as he pulled up, he heard the car alarm set off on the Nissan. He also noticed three sets of footprints in the dew going from the car to behind a house beside the driveway that the vehicle was parked in.
Other officers arrived to help look for the occupants of the vehicle. Two black males were located and when the officer approached them they immediately ran. The officers gave chase on foot.
When they were caught the two subjects were placed into custody with one being in possession of a loaded firearm. A short time later, the third subject was found as well and was also in possession of a firearm. As officers began doing an inventory of the vehicle, they found multiple guns located in the trunk.
After investigators took over the case, it was discovered that the three subjects had broken into some cars just before officers made contact with them. The guns and other merchandise that were found turned out to be stolen from these vehicles.
The three suspects were identified and charged as follows:
Mark Franklin — Breaking and Entering; Theft of Property; Fleeing on Foot
