Saline County has proven to be a hot bed of youth softball players in the state of Arkansas. The week of July 22-27 in Branson, Mo., Thunder 2000 Black of Benton, including Jaclynn Greenwood and Baylee Rowton of Bryant, brought another USSSA Softball World Series championship back home.
Along with Greenwood and Rowton, team members include Taylor Sledd, Leighton Withers, Rylea Brimhall, Caitlynne Black, Grace Nowlin, Maggie Hicks, Madison Lyles and Kylie Williamson. The team is coached by Scott Knight, Jason Rowton, Kyle Williamson and Chad Withers.[more]
This is the second consecutive year that Thunder 2000 Black has gone undefeated and won the USSSA World Series, proving to be the top 9-year-old team in Arkansas as well as the United States.
Thunder 2000 Black went 8-0 on their way to the championship. They team was very impressive on both sides of the field while scoring 66 runs and only giving up 15, beating their opponents by an average of 6 runs per game. Over the past two years, the girls have realized that teamwork can win championships and that’s just what they’ve done.
“The Thunder Family would also like to commend their Thunder 2000 Blue 9-year-old team for being USSSA World Series runners-up the previous year and fourth place in the USSSA World Series this season,” noted Tracy Greenwood, Jaclynn’s mother. “They were also impressive with 7 wins and 2 losses and on both sides of the field while scoring 65 runs and only giving up 34.”
