When a 6-year-old is asked if he wants to ride his bike, go for a run or go swimming, most kids would pick one. Logan Gartin picked all three.
Now at age 9, Logan has been competing in triathlons for three years. Beginning with the Conway Kid Triathlon, Logan finished ninth out of 16 7-year-olds.
At that point, many kids would ask where the nearest happy meal was and announce that the triathlon that was just completed would be the last.
Not Logan.[more]
His father, Kent Gartin recalls Logan asking, “When is the next one of these?” Dad didn’t know but, of course, did some digging.
Since then, Logan has done over 30 kid triathlons, six 5K’s, several Duathlons, and eight adult sprint triathlons where he has always been the youngest. That’s more than 40 events! He finished 5th in the nation at the USA Triathlon (USAT) Youth Nationals in 2007.
Logan will be competing again for the USAT Youth National Championships in Colorado Springs on Aug. 8, and will be traveling to 10 states / 10,000 miles this summer! Some of the activities Logan is doing to help raise money for the USAT Youth National Championships include collecting aluminum cans, selling t-shirts with his race events listed on his website, yard work, and other odd jobs.
