ROGERS — The Bryant Hornets had a tough time at the 7A State Track and Field Championships in[more] Rogers on Thursday, scoring 13 points to place 13th in the meet. Fayetteville won the team championship, narrowly holding off Conway.
Spencer Sullivan had the highest place finish for the Hornets, taking fifth in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 42.25.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Lance Smith, Clifton Hampton, Austin Middleton, and Tyler Purtle placed sixth in a season-best time of 8:36. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Derrick Dogan, Dillion Winfrey, Charles Henson, and Caleb Thomas placed sixth in a time of 43.5.
Winfrey was sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.1 to round out the scoring for the Hornets.
"We had a mix of good and not-so-good,” commented Hornets coach Steve Oury. “The 4 x 800 team ran their best race of the season and really stepped up. The 4 x 100 team ran a season-best time in the prelims but then struggled a little in the finals. Spencer Sullivan gave a great effort in the 300 hurdles and we will have him back next year.
“We will miss our seniors, but I feel we have a very talented group of freshmen moving up next year to compliment some talented sophomores, so I think we should be pretty tough in the next few years," he added.
