Sophomore duo leads the pack at Lady Hornets intrasquad

A pair of sophomores, Zhania Hall and Bailey Brazil, paced the field in the annual Bryant cross country intrasquad meet at Bishop Park on Thursday. Hall finished 0:01 faster than Brazil to take top honors, leading the Blue team to victory by a single point over Brazil and the Black team.

Blue finished with 141 points to Black’s 142. The White team, which was paced by senior Sydney Wilson, who was fourth overall, finished third with 186 points.

Hall turned in a 14:26 with Brazil, who was Bryant’s second finisher in the 2015 Class 7A State meet as a freshman, clocked in at 14:27.

Senior Brianna Hood of the Blue team, who was Bryant’s third finisher at State last year, was third in 14:38 followed by Wilson at 14:40.

Olivia Orr was the top finisher among the junior high runners. Her 14:58 was good for fifth overall, contributing to the Black team’s total. Junior Lauren Hart (fifth at State) of the White team was sixth in 15:00.

Completing the top 10 were Jillian Colclasure (Blue) in 15:14, Caroline Pelton (Black) in 15:17, Maddie Gallagher (Black) in 15:33, and Kaleigh Thomas (Black) in 15:43.

“This group is showing some real promise,” said Lady Hornets coach Keith Dale. “With the hard work they have put in over the summer, we have come back strong and ready to compete.

“Keeping a strong pack will be very instrumental to a successful season,” he noted. “I’m proud of how things are going.”

Bryant is set to open the 2016 season at the Minuteman Invitational at Western Hills Park in Little Rock on Saturday, Sept. 10.
