NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Spring break apparently came at the wrong time for[more] the Bryant Lady Hornets soccer team. Going into the break, they’d won five of their last six matches with all five victories coming on shutouts and the only loss coming on a shootout after the game was tied 1-1 through the end of regulation.
But when they returned to action after the break in a 7A/6A-Central Conference clash against the Mount St. Mary Belles on Tuesday, they suffered a 2-0 loss.
“We just didn’t show up to play tonight in the first half,” stated Lady Hornets coach Julie Long. “You can’t win games only playing one half.”
Both Belles goals came in that opening half, one with about 20 minutes left, the second with close to 10 minutes to play.
“We are just going to have to get re-focused and get back on track for the rest of the conference season,” Long stated.
That begins at home on Thursday against Van Buren.
“I think it was my fault for not having them ready,” Long said. “The layoff definitely didn’t help but I knew before the game it wasn’t going to be pretty. We just weren’t focused at all.”
It was just the third time in 12 matches the Lady Hornets were unable to find the back of the net.
Bryant is now 8-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.
