Six Bryant schools qualify for recognition program funds

By Devin Sherrill, Bryant School District Communication Director

Six Bryant schools, out of the state’s nearly 1,110, will share in over $7 million in reward money from the Arkansas School Recognition Program. The program recognizes the top 10 percent of schools based on academic achievement and the top 10 percent based on academic growth.

Based on academic achievement, the top 10 percent of performing schools are slated to receive rewards of $48.50 per student enrolled. Salem Elementary, Springhill Elementary, Collegeville Elementary, Hurricane Creek Elementary and Bethel Middle School all ranked in the top 10 percent of schools for academic performance.

Salem Elementary: $29,777.06

Springhill Elementary: $29,984.95

Collegeville Elementary: $27,952.27

Hurricane Creek Elementary: $26,560.19

Bethel Middle School: $44,318.93

Salem Elementary ranked in the top five percent for academic growth, receiving $96.99 per student in reward funds. Springhill Elementary ranked in the top 10 percent and will receive $48.50 per student. Paron Elementary (which closed at the end of the 2014-15 school year) also ranked in the top 10 percent. Funds earned by Paron will be transferred to Salem Elementary, which now encompasses the former Paron attendance zone.

Salem Elementary: $$59,554.13

Springhill Elementary: $29,984.95

Paron Elementary: $3,349.96

A school committee made up of the principal, a teacher elected by the school’s faculty, and a parent leader all work together to develop the school’s spending plan. The Arkansas Department of Education must approve the school’s plan for spending the money before the reward is distributed.
