RUSSELLVILLE — The Bryant Hornets track team competed in the Russellville Cyclone[more] Relays, placing 12th out of 22 scoring treams. All of the 7A teams in the state of Arkansas except for two were at the meet. The Hornets, running without the services of four sprinters and jumpers who are competing in a football combine in Texas, scored 25 points. Rogers Heritage won the team title with a total of 88.
Spencer Sullivan led the way for the Hornets, placing third in both the 110 meter hurdles (15.46) and the 300 meter hurdles (40.87). Also scoring for the Hornets was John Winn in the 400 meter dash (5th in 51.29), Justin Combs in the pole vault (6th in 13' 6"), the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Clifton Hampton, Nick Schmidt, Connor Wilson, and Tyler Purtle (6th in 8:43), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Jalen Bell, Makiya Hunter, Steven Murdock, and Spencer Sullivan (6th in 44.02).
"We had some good performances out there, with several personal records set,” noted Hornets coach Steve Oury. “This was a state-meet-like environment so the depth of quality performances was very high.
“We missed some potential scoring chances in the hurdles and jumps from the athletes who were not there,” he acknowledged, “but overall it was a pretty good meet. We know we have some work to do to prepare for the last few meets of the season leading up to conference and state meet, but we are looking forward to the challenge."
