Shannon Hills Mayor Mike Kemp awarded the students, staff and faculty of Davis Elementary a[more] Certificate of Appreciation for helping the city secure a grant to build a local park.
Students at Davis provided letters, illustrations and posters on “why we need a city park” as part of the city’s presentation to the State Grant Committee. Shannon Hills was recently approved for a matching grant of more than $64,000. The local match brings the total to almost $140,000, which will be invested in a city park for students, families, friends and neighbors. Plans are to complete the park in early 2014 and will provide the city with playground equipment, picnic tables and sidewalks, all handicap accessible.
“There is absolutely no doubt the assistance provided by Davis Elementary was instrumental in the successful grant application,” stated Mayor Kemp. “This is a wonderful example of how we can all work together to make great things happen in our community.”
