PEARCY — Serving runs by Camille Rawls and Kiarra Beard sparked the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eight grade volleyball team of Bethel Middle School to a strong start as the team defeated the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves 25-22, 23-25, 15-9 on Monday night.
“This group would not give up,” said Bethel coach Melissa Bragg. “They fought for every point. I was very proud of the way they played.”
The Lady Hornets were on the verge of losing the first game of the match, trailing 8-19, when Rawls rotated to server and reeled off points 9 through 16 to close the gap. She had four aces during the surge. After a sideout, Beard put together four aces as she served the Lady Hornets to points 18 to 23.
In the second game, Beard had five more aces in six serves, giving her 10 for the match. Rawls finished with six aces and two kills.
Cora Edwards finished with two aces while Ashley Davis and Casey Welch added one apiece. Grace Sams, Brooke Abney and Cali Rogers finished with one kill each. Abney had two blocks and Sams one.
Bethel hosts Bryant Middle School tonight.
