WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A KID? Power Rangers; that was the way to go.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL? As of right now, college is a little fuzzy. I am going to go to college. I don’t know where. I’m going to major in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. I want to be a strength and conditioning coach. And I’m going to join the Air Force Reserve to help pay off college.
OTHER THAN YOUR PARENTS, WHO’S HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR LIFE? HOW? Both my brother and my sister. My brother, he’s 24 and usually kids like that are in debt but he’s got pretty much everything paid off already. I want to be like that, get out of college and be free of debt. And my sister, she was a great sports figure when she was in high school, great basketball player; just the way that she does her things in college, I look up to her.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WRESTLING? The fact that it’s a one-on-one sport. If you lose, it’s your fault. And, if you win, you’ve earned it. You have to rely on your team to help you get better but, when it’s you on the mat, it’s just you.
WHAT’S YOUR WEIGHT CLASS? 160. I’m dropping to 152 for State.
WHAT’S YOUR APPROACH TO A MATCH? My approach is to not over-estimate my opponent because, in my past years, I have; so to just look at one match at a time and not look ahead.
WHAT’S BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT TO THE SEASON SO FAR? So far, it was when I was facing the number two guy in the state. I was number three at the time and I won in the last 45 seconds.
WHAT’S IT GOING TO TAKE FOR THE TEAM TO BE SUCCESSFUL THE REST OF THE SEASON? We’ve just kind of get our heads into because, you know, we’ve got some kids, including me, kind of just not having our head into it. But when we focus down, crank down and start using our moves and our techniques rather than just muscling people, I think our team will do great.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST CONFIDENT IN YOUR ABILITY TO DO? Pulling it out when it’s needed. I can be losing 5-0, say, in the last 30 seconds and I can pull it up just because I know I can. The fact that I know I can come back, confidence is the best.
WHAT DO YOU WORK HARDEST TO IMPROVE ON IN PRACTICE? My cardio; in wrestling you need conditioning more than anything. Technique is good, power is good but conditioning gets you through the matches.
WHEN YOU’RE THROUGH WRESTLING AT BRYANT HIGH SCHOOL, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL LOOK BACK AND REMEMBER MOST FONDLY ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE? The camaraderie, being with your teammates and pals. Everybody that’s graduated so far, I still talk to them every single day and I’m never going to forget that.
