CONWAY — Eighth grader Mary Catherine Selig garnered a top 20 medal, leading the Bryant Junior Lady Hornets who finished in seventh place at the Conway Wampus Cat Invitational Saturday at Beaverfork Lake Park. Selig finished in 13:16 to take 13th place overall.
Cabot won the junior high meet championship with 74 points followed by Russellville (85), Conway (125), Vilonia (151), Harding Academy (160), Little Rock Christian (170), Bryant (171), and Heber Springs (172). There were 16 teams and 221 total runners in the race.
Freshman Alyssa Rowland finished 38th in 14:11 for the Lady Hornets. Eighth-grader Bailey Brazil was Bryant’s third finisher at 43rd in 14:25. Finishing out the scoring five were seventh-grader Mika Johnson (50th, 14:24) and freshman Carissa Colslasure (51st, 14:34).
“I was really proud of Mary Catherine and Alyssa,” stated Bryant coach Danny Westbrook. “They ran strong today.”
Completing the top seven for Bryant were Lauren Hart (59th, 14:48) and Olivia Orr (61st, 14:49).
“We are going to have to improve our time gaps between our scoring five to have any shot at contending in the team competition,” Westbrook mentioned.
Bryant is scheduled to run in the Russellville Cyclone Invitational next Saturday.
