BAUXITE — Cameron Murray and Jake Scoggins combined for 28 points but the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School were unable to overcome a slow second quarter in a 49-40 loss to the Bauxite Crushers Tuesday.
The Hornets trailed just 11-10 after the first quarter but managed just 6 points in the second quarter as Bauxite built a 22-16 edge by halftime. It was 37-27 going into the fourth quarter.
“There were times during the first half that we were a little sloppy with the
basketball,” noted Hornets coach Heath Long. “And Bauxite was able to turn that into points.
“In the second half, we showed a lot of improvement as far as handling pressure and, on the offensive end of the floor, Jake and Cameron were both solid as usual, and Simeon (Watson) showed signs that he is becoming the player that we need him to be.”
Murray finished with 15 points, Scoggins 13 and Watson 6 for the Hornets who return to action at home against Cabot South on Monday, Dec. 5.
