The entire Bryant football program from the high school varsity to both middle school seventh grade teams will[more] be featured in intersquad scrimmages at Bryant Stadium on Friday, Aug. 23, according to plans released by athletic director Mike Lee and BHS head football coach Paul Calley.
Schedules for all of teams’ 2013 season were released today by Lee.
Calley’s Hornets will once again be competing in the South Conference with non-conference games against former Central Conference rivals, Conway, Little Rock Central and Little Rock Catholic.
The annual Salt Bowl battle with the Benton Panthers will once again open conference play. It’s scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27, at War Memorial Stadium. It’ll be Benton’s turn to be the home team.
In addition, the Hornets will once again have a pre-season scrimmage but, instead of the struggling Little Rock Hall Warriors’ program (last season's scrimmage proved to be almost counter-productive for the Hornets), they’ll take on the perennial powerhouse Pulaski Academy Bruins at Bryant Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
The season begins on Friday, Sept. 6, with a trip to Conway. Bryant visits Little Rock Central in week two then plays its first home game against Catholic on Sept. 20.
The Bryant freshman team, after the Blue-White scrimmage on Aug. 23, will host Pine Bluff in a pre-season scrimmage on Monday, Aug. 26, then open the season at Hot Springs Lakeside on Thursday, Sept. 5.
The Bryant White eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School will also open at Lakeside that night, while the Bryant Blue eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School opens on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Bryant Stadium against Pulaski Heights. The Bryant Blue seventh grade team will make its debut that night as well, while the Bryant White seventh graders open on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at home against Bryant Blue.
The annual Hornet Bowl game between the Blue and White eighth grade teams will be Thursday, Oct. 17.
