RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Whirlwinds broke out to an 18-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 48-37 win over the Bryant Hornets freshmen in Central Arkansas Junior High Conference play on Monday night.
The Hornets were within 29-19 at the half but trailed 42-27 going into the fourth quarter.
“We got off to a slow start and they got some easy looks,” said Hornets coach Tyler Posey. “They got hot from deep and really made us pay. We finally got going in the second half and played much better but couldn’t climb out of the hole from the first quarter.”
Tristan Calhoun led Bryant with 13 points. Brandon Hill added 11.
Bryant travels to Cabot Red on Thursday then concludes the season on Thursday, Feb. 19, at Conway White.
