Rodrigo Rodarte won the 1600 meter run to highlight the performance of the Bryant Hornets freshman track team at the Junior Hornet Relays at Bryant Stadium on Monday.
Conway White won the meet with 132 points. Lakeside was second with 77.
Bryant placed seventh with 36 points. The Bryant White eight grade team of Bryant Middle School placed 15th with 11 points and the Bryant Blue eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School scored 2 points at the meet which featured 15 mostly freshman squads.
Rodarte finished the 1600 in 5:08.44 just ahead of Little Rock Christian eighth grader Ben Fiser (5:08.91).
The Hornets also got a second-place finish from Stoney Stevens in the 400. He finished in 57.12 just behind Conway White’s Andrew Nance (55.89).[more]
Josh Keyes contributed a pair of sixth-place finishes for the Hornets freshmen. He finished behind Rodarte in the 1600 with a time of 5:26.39 then added a sixth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.
Blake Hobby was sixth in the discus for Bryant, with a throw of 111 feet. In the shot, Hunter Schelle had the seventh-place toss of 38-4.
In addition, Damian Kropp picked up two points in the 1600 finishing seventh in 5:26.86 and Austin Wadley picked up a point as the eighth-place finisher in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 25.80.
Stevens and Rodarte teamed up with Hunter Berry and Austin Wadley in the 1600 meter relay and picked up third-place points with a time of 3:59.78.
Bryant White picked up its points in the 3200 meter relay and the 1600 meter run. In the former, Clifton Hampton, Bryan Riley, Spencer Qualls and Nick Ballew combined to finish seventh in 10:26.90. In the latter, Riley was fourth in 5:25.55 and David Powery was fifth in 5:25.66.
One of Bryant Blue’s points also came in the 1600 in which six of the eight scoring spots were claimed by Bryant athletes. Tyler Purtle was eighth in 5:28.66. He was also eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:26.85.
Bauxite’s freshman team also competed at the meet, finishing 14th with 15 1/3 points.
Dylan Herron was third in the high jump, clearing 5-6 with teammate Logan Williams tying for eighth with a leap over 5 feet. Herron was sixth in the 200 with a time of 25.65 and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17-6. Garrett Wilcox was eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.64. Herron, Williams and Wilcox also teamed up with Austin Ward in the 4×100 relay, placing sixth in a time of 49.51.
