The Bryant White Hornets seventh grade basketball team of Bryant Middle School ran into a buzzsaw in the Ridge Road Cats of North Little Rock on Thursday night. The Cats outscored the Hornets 19-7 in the second half on the way to a 42-22 win at the BMS gym.
“We played better than we did on Tuesday night,” said Hornets coach Heath Long, referring to the team’s season-opening loss to Sheridan. “Ridge Road has a really good team, probably one of the best we will see all year.”
The Cats built a 13-7 lead in the first quarter and held a 21-15 edge at the half. They took control in the third quarter, outscoring Bryant White 9-2.
“We did a better job of playing together, both offensively and defensively,” Long said. “And we didn’t take bad shots like we did on Tuesday night. This team is better than their (0-2) record shows and, eventually, the wins will come.”
O.J. Newburn led the Hornets with 7 points. Ahman Adams added 6 and Arlon Jenkins had 4.
The Hornets hope to pick up their first victory when they return to action at Conway Blue on Dec. 2.
