For their first games since mid-December, the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets of Bethel Middle School[more] surged to victories in both the eighth and seventh grade contests against Hot Springs Lakeside Thursday night.
The eighth grade team, now 10-3 on the season, outscored the Junior Lady Rams 7-0 in the second quarter to overcome an early 8-5 deficit and held on for a 27-22 win.
The seventh grade team went to 7-1 on the season by easing to a 30-6 victory.
The eighth graders play again on Monday night at the Bethel gym against the Anthony School. The seventh graders will begin play in a tournament in Bauxite on Saturday, Jan. 19, at noon in Rucker gym.
Reagan McCormick scored 9 points to lead the eighth grade team to victory. Kendal Rodgers added 7 points to go with four rebounds and two steals. Penny Smith pitched in with 4 points and five boards.
Riley Hill, Sarah Kennedy and Bethany Hutchison contributed 2 points each with Hutchison garnering three rebounds as well. Ti Foote added a free throw and Kasey Ward collected three caroms.
In the seventh grade game, Bryant Blue opened up a 13-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and was never threatened.
