CONWAY — “The girls seemed to be both mentally and physically exhausted this weekend,” declared Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball coach Beth Solomon after her team went 1-2 in pool play then finished as the runner-up in the Silver Division of the Conway Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Hornets, currently tied for second in the 7A/6A-Central Conference and riding a six-match winning streak, may have also been looking ahead a bit. On Tuesday, they get a shot at league-leading Conway at the Hornets Nest.[more]
In pool play on Saturday, Bryant defeated Little Rock Christian 25-21, 25-24 but lost to defending Class 5A State champion Siloam Springs, 24-25, 16-25. Brookland then sent the Lady Hornets to the Silver Division bracket play with a 14-25, 24-25 setback.
In bracket play, the Lady Hornets subdued Little Rock Christian again, 26-24, 25-20 then ousted Morrilton, 25-16, 25-21 to forge a rematch with Brookland in the bracket final only to fall 20-25, 20-25.
“I’m okay with how the girls played this weekend,” Solomon commented. “I’m not super thrilled nor super disappointed. I feel like the girls should’ve played better than what they did. I will say that we played up to Siloam Springs. The girls really played well in that match.
“Our passing looked amazing to start the day,” she added. “We had a few lull moments but, overall, the passing looked great.”
For the day, Brianna White and McKenzie Rice each produced 30 kills. Courtney Davidson added 28. White also had 14 blocks, Maggie Hart eight and Amber Cope five.
Hannah Rice contributed 92 assists and 64 digs. Lauren Reed had 42 digs. Hart and Sydney Manley provided four aces each while serving.
