BENTON — When Bryant freshman Fenice Boone won the 400-meter dash at the Central[more] Arkansas Junior High Conference track championship on Saturday, her time of 56.82 not only set new school and conference records but, incredibly enough, it topped the best times in the state among high school girls this season.
Boone wound up leading the Bryant Junior Lady Hornets with 24 points as they finished fifth overall.
Lake Hamilton won the title with 173 points followed by Cabot South (141), Conway White (79), Conway Blue (69), Bryant (68), Benton (45), NLR (31), and Cabot North (9).
Boone also took the title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.2 and she was a member of both sprint relay teams as well.
Jayla Anderson scored 16 points and set a new conference record too. She won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.8 to set the new standard. In the 100-meter hurdles, Anderson was leading with two hurdles to go, tripped and fell, got up, and finished seventh with a time of 18.6. She was also a member of both sprint relay teams.
Bryant won the conference title in the 4×400-meter relay. The team of Alexis Broderick, Talyn Billins, Anderson, and Boone took the victory with a dramatic come-from-behind win over Cabot. Their time of 4:14.6 set a new Bryant Junior High School record.
