As might be expected, senior Hannah Raney, a standout for the Bryant Lady Hornets cross country team since[more] her freshman year, paced the field in the team’s annual pre-season intrasquad meet on the new course at Bishop Park on Tuesday.
Raney finished in 12:51 to pace the Blue team. Junior Melinda Murdock who, along with Raney represented the State at the Arkansas-Oklahoma All-Star meet last fall, was second with a time of 13:07 to lead the Black team on Tuesday. Murdock, an all-state middle distance runner for the BHS track team, also competed in the 2012 heptathlon in the spring and finished in the top 20.
It was, however, the White team that captured team honors in the intrasquad. Freshman Sarah Cowell led the White team with a time of 13:50, which was fourth overall. Blue team sophomore Caitlyn Bell (13:15) was third overall.
Bryant White finished with 840 points to the Blue team’s 858 and the Black team’s 950.
The Blue team’s Hannah Shelby, a freshman, finished fifth in 13:53. Sophomore Lauren Ackley of the Black team was sixth in 14:08. Talyn Billins, a sophomore, took seventh for the White team in 14:15, with Reagan Smith, another freshman, eighth in 14:34 for the Blue team.
Completing the top 10 were Hadley Dickonson of the White team (14:34) and Abby Ostrem of the Blue team (15:05).
The Lady Hornets are set to officially open the 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Ouachita Baptist University Invitational in Arkadelphia.
