CONWAY — Using a withering full-court pressure defense, the Conway Blue Lady Wampus Cats freshman team jumped to a 16-5 lead in the first quarter against the Bryant Lady Hornets’ freshmen. That provided the impetus for a 41-21 win by the Conway team.
The Lady Cats led 24-12 at the half and 33-17 through three quarters.
“We really struggled against their press,” acknowledged Bryant coach Nathan Castaldi. “We had too many turnovers, which led to easy baskets for Conway Blue.
“For most of the first three quarters, Blue would stretch the lead to 14 of 15 then we would cut it back down to single digits,” he noted. “We were able to do that because we competed much better than in our games last week.”
Paige Adams led Bryant with 7 points. Jalen Sparks added 5, Maddie Miller 4. Danielle Singled and Kelly Williams scored 2 each and Raven Loveless 1.
This Thursday, the Lady Hornets travel to play Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock.
