Planners send sign ordinance to Council

By Jamie Miller

The Bryant Planning Commission passed the Sign Ordinance on Monday night, July 11. Three changes[more] were made to the Ordinance before it was passed, and according to LaVenia Jones, Director of the Planning and Community Development of Bryant, the final draft has been sent to all City Council members with a recommendation to approve and adopt at the upcoming City Council meeting at the end of July.

The changes included removing the billboard section from the Sign Ordinance; the Billboard Ordinance will be amended separately, according to Jones. Removing the sign surface area limitation for free standing signs in both C-1 and C-2 Commercial Zoning Districts, and adding text to describe the cause for removal of banners or temporary signs by the sign administrator.

The final draft of the Sign Ordinance has been placed on the city’s website, www.cityofbryant.org, for the public to view. The Commission also forwarded the proposed Ordinance to the City Attorney, Nga Mahfouz, for legal review before the City Council receives it in their agenda packet for the July 28 meeting.

“I do suspect the council will pass the ordinance,” Jones said.
