CABOT — Tyler Purtle won the 1600 meter relay to highlight the day for the Bryant Hornets freshman track team at the[more] Central Arkansas Junior High Conference meet Saturday.
Purtle finished in 2:15.77 to win the event. He also finished third in the 1600 with a time of 4:46.40.
North Little Rock won the team championship amassing 133 points. Cabot South was second with 109.5.Bryant, with far few runners than the other schools in the league, accumulated 27 points.
Makiya Hunter scored in two individual events as well. He was fifth in the 200 with a time of 24.98 and sixth in the long jump, covering 17-5.
In the relays, Bryant’s 4×100 team of Marcus Seago, Hunter, Marc Reed and Jonah Lanier turned in a 48.76 to finish seventh.
In the 4×400, Reed, Austin Middleton, Hunter and Purtle combined on a 4:18.16 clocking, finishing eighth while the foursome of Alec Goss, Galen Heathcock, Middleton and Alex Hunt teamed up in the 4×800 to finish eighth with a time of 10:04.44.
Once again, the Hornets were running just freshmen while the other teams in the league had eighth grade runners competing as well.
