For the third time in as many years, the Bryant Parks Department and Bryant School District have partnered together to obtain grant money through the Arkansas Department of Education via a Special Joint Use Agreement (JUA) grant release.
Pending School Board Approval, the $9,700 grant award will be used to purchase youth volleyball equipment to be jointly used by both organizations on school property at Hurricane Creek Elementary School beginning in the Fall of 2014.
The money secured will be awarded to the school district for operational expenses as well as the following equipment for joint use with the Bryant Parks Department:
- 25 Youth Volleyballs
- Two (2) Volleyball Carts
- Two (2) Pairs of Portable Volleyball Standards
- Four (4) Volleyball Nets
“These Joint Use Agreement (JUA) opportunities offered by the state are a progressive solution to a community experiencing limited resources,” said Brandon Griffin, Recreation Superintendent for the City of Bryant. “It just goes to show you the value of community partnership as well as taxpayer money being invested back into the health and wellness programming here in Bryant.”
The JUA Program is a collaboration of the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), the Arkansas Center for Obesity Prevention (ARCOP) and the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI). Funds are available each grant year based on Tobacco Excise Tax appropriations or until funds are expended.
