HOT SPRINGS — The Bryant Junior Hornets earned eight top-30 medals at the Lake Hamilton Invitational at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to overtake three other teams, as the Junior Hornets finished fourth.
Lake Hamilton (52 points) won the meet, followed by DeQueen (59), Russellville (87), Bryant (108), and LR Catholic (138). Seventeen teams and 256 runners competed in the 2.09-mile race.[more]
Clifton Hampton led the way for the Junior Hornets with a 12th place finish in a time of 12:26. The rest of the Bryant top 10 runners were Charlie Terry (22nd in 12:42), Dru Wen (23rd in 12:45), Austin Middleton (25th in 12:50), Nick Ballew (26th in 12:51), Spencer Adami (27th in 12:53), Jim Dellorto (28th in 12:56), Alex Hunt (29th in 12:57), Cesar Rodarte (31st in 12:59), and Chance Levinson (39th in 13:09).
"We ran a pretty good race,” stated Bryant coach Steve Oury. “We had several guys go out pretty hard early in the race and some of them were hurting late. Hampton continues to run well, and the surprise of the race was Charlie Terry, who is just a seventh grader. He was passing people left and right in the last half mile and ended up being our second runner.
“I love how we finished in a pack,” he added, “so now we just need to work on getting that pack to come in a little sooner and we will be contending to win some meets."
Along with the Bryant varsity, the Junior Hornets will be in action again next week at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville.
