A burrito-eating contest at Bryant High School, sponsored by Moe’s, was held on Friday, Oct. 15, at the weekly pep rally in the gym.
With close to 1,000 students present at the pep rally, the sound of them cheering on their favorite contestant was deafening. After all was said and done, Michael Pace, a BHS band member, was crowned the winner and presented with a plaque that read “Bryant High School Burrito Eating Contest Winner of 2010.”[more]
Pace was recognized before the kickoff of Friday night’s Bryant-Conway game and presented with his plaque by Moe’s representatives Laura Butler and Langley Fruin.
Nancy Lafferty, BHS Social Studies teacher and Spirit Club sponsor, encouraged student involvement in the contest.
“Mrs. Lafferty did a great job getting school involvement,” Fruin said. “A total of eight students participated in the event, seven guys and one girl. Tables were moved onto the gym floor where each contestant was given one burrito from Moe’s and a glass of water.”
Pace will go on to compete against two other winners from Benton High School and Bauxite High School later this month. The winner of that contest will not only receive bragging rights for an entire year, they will also receive free burritos for a year and take the traveling trophy to their school.
