Five days off — no problem for the Bryant Hornets freshman basketball team. Eleven different players contributed to the scoring, 19 saw action and the Hornets came up with 23 steals in a 39-19 win over the Cabot South Panthers on Wednesday.
The game was originally scheduled for Monday but was postponed due to icy conditions, the very reason the Hornets had been idle.
But the Hornets came out on task, building a 12-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and holding a 22-11 advantage by halftime. It was 32-15 by the end of the third period.
“I was a little worried going into this game, about how we would respond to being off,” acknowledged Hornets coach Tyler Posey. “But we really came out and played hard. The intensity and focus was something that we can really build on. We showed our most complete defensive game and it showed, holding our opponent to only 19 points.”
Calvin Allen led Bryant’s scoring with 11 points. Kaleb Turner added 7 and Caylin Allen 6. Garrett Cowart scored 3 with Brandon Harris, Christian McIntosh, Marvin Moody, Jonathan Allen, Kyle Sahr, John Winston and Chris Adams contributing 2 each.
The Hornets were set for a showdown against North Little Rock at home on Thursday night.
