INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — In what may be his final regular-season appearance, Bryant's Travis Wood pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and one run and gaining no decision after his Louisville Bats teammates rallied for a 4-2 win over the Indianapolis Indians in International League play on Thursday night.
Wood walked no one and struck out six. The lone run he surrendered came in the first on a single, a sacrifice and an RBI double. He retired the next two to get out of the inning.[more]
The lefty who is 4-2 since being promoted to the Class AAA Louisville team (Cincinnati Reds), worked around a lead-off single in the second and a two-out single in the third. A trio of singles in the fourth loaded the bases with one out for Indianapolis but Wood pitched out of the jam inducing a short fly to right then ending the threat with a strikeout. He finished with a 1-2-3 fifth.
Louisville will advance to the International League playoffs as the West Division champions. Wood is expected to be one of the Bats' playoff starters despite joining the team late in the season. He was named the Outstanding Pitcher of the Carolina League for his work with the Carolina Mudcats where, before reporting to Louisville, he went 9-3 with a league-leading 1.27 earned run average.
