Former Arkansas Razorback football standout J.J. Meadors is currently conducting speed and agility training designed for young baseball and softball players at Diamond Sports in Bryant.
“We’ve had the program going for about four weeks here,” Meadors said late last week. “I think the guys that are in the program are already starting to see the benefits. They’re already running faster, hitting the ball harder. We’re really excited about it.”[more]
Regarding the goals of the training, Meadors explained, “I think the guys want to be faster, I think they want to work on their overall explosiveness. So, we do a lot of core, medicine ball drills that help the guys with their explosiveness. We’re talking about going from being able to hit to being able to hit with power but, at the same time, also being explosive when they’re moving left and right, being able to make plays, and being able to go from homeplate to second base.
“The 60-yard dash is a big deal in baseball,” he added. “That’s one of the things that can really separate you.
“It’s also a matter of getting the guys to train at a high level so they get an expectation of going out and performing at a high level as well.”

“The good thing about baseball is that it’s a spring and summer sport, so we’ll be doing some strength and conditioning programs also through the fall in addition to the speed and agility.”
