A quartet of young catchers from Bryant recently attended a clinic hosted by[more] StarCatcher Sports.
Jakob Neel and Myers Buck, both 12 years old, along with Russell Winders and Justin Watson, both 11, were among those at the event.
Ronnie Deck, the bullpen catcher and assistant to the hitting coach for the Baltimore Orioles, founded StarCatcher Sports and conducted the clinic.
A graduate of Lawton High School in Lawton, Okla., Deck played at Cameron University in Lawton and Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City.
From 1999 to 2001, he played independent Minor League baseball. He joined the Tampa Bay Rays organization in 2002. He started coaching on the Minor League level in 2005 and scouted for the St. Louis Cardinals. After serving as a college coach at Oglethorpe University in 2006 and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo., in 2007, he joined the Orioles in 2008.
During the offseason, Deck resides in Forth Worth, Texas and travels the country hosting StarCatcher clinics. Those clinics include defensive clinics for all position players, offensive clinics for all position players, and position specific clinics (i.e. a clinic specific to catchers). They also include group and one-on-one instruction and are generally open to players ages 10 and up.
