Lindsley leads Hornets to third at home meet; Bryant runner-up in junior boys competition

Luke Lindsley’s sixth-place finish individually led the Bryant Hornets, collectively, to a third-place finish in the Bryant Hornet Invitational on Tuesday at Mills Park.

Lindsley ran the 5k (3.1 mile) course in 17:09, with teammate Jacob Clark just missing a top 10 finish, coming in 11th in a time of 17:31.

Cabot won the team competition with a score of 67, which was the same as runner-up Russellville. Cabot's sixth runner was ahead of Russellville's, giving Cabot the victory. Bryant scored 79 points in the 12-team competition.[more]

Sheridan's Chris Marchman was individual medalist finishing in 16:13. Brendon Tucker of Cabot was second at 16:24.

The rest of the Hornet top seven was made up of Dillon Rhodes (18th in 18:15), Logan Howard (19th in 18:19), Michael Smith (25th in 18:42), Jesse Wolf (28th in 18:51), and Peter Alverio (32nd in 18:58).

"I thought we showed some improvement over our performance Saturday in Conway,” stated Hornets head coach Steve Oury. “Jacob Clark stepped it up and ran a much better race, and the gap from our first to fifth runner was decreased. We have to keep working on making that gap even smaller as we progress through the season."

Completing the Hornets’ contingent of runners were Kevin Nalley (19:10), Fabian Ruthardt (19:29), Josh Pultro (20:10), Forrest Fowler (20:49), Brenden Guffey (20:56), Dylan Ball (20:57), Cody Hughes (21:03), Levi Lindsley (21:13), Troy Smith (21:52), Tyler Potts (23:00), Brandon Powell (23:57), Jesse Marcrum (24:28) and Christopher Oldfield (24:47).

The Bryant Junior Hornets used a pair of top-10 finishes to earn second place in the junior boys competition. Rodrigo Rodarte placed 7th in a time of 11:47 over the two-mile course. Eighth grader Bryan Riley was 9th in a time of 11:59.

Russellville won the team competition with a score of 29. Bryant's runner-up total was 56. Seven complete teams finished the race.

Parker Dey of Cabot North was the individual medalist finishing in a time of 11:05. Cole Slayton of Hot Springs Lakeside was second at 11:16.

The rest of the Hornets top seven consisted of Damian Kropp (13th in 12:28), Nick Ballew (14th in 12:32), Josh Keyes (24th in 12:41), Michael Nash (26th in 12:51), and Druid Wen (29th in 13:02).

"The junior boys made a big improvement over Saturday,” Oury commented. “Rodrigo Rodarte and Nick Ballew did not compete Saturday, so having them with us made a big difference. Rodrigo is playing football as well, so he really doesn't get a chance to train for cross country. He is running on pure talent.

“As usual, Russellville is the team to beat, so we will have to keep trying to close in on them," he noted.

"I would like to thank all of the volunteers who help make this meet possible,” Oury said. “Coach (Danny) Westbrook and I are very blessed to have such dedicated parents who give up so much of their time to help our program. We couldn't have a meet like this without them."

The Hornet cross country teams will be in action next at the Russellville Cyclone Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3.
