LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Black Sox and the Texarkana Razorbacks were set to play the championship game of the 2016 Senior American Legion Mid-South Regional Tournament with a trip to the Legion World Series on the line. Just moments after Texarkana earned the spot in the title game with a 5-0 win over the Sedalia Travelers, champions of Missouri, it began to rain at UALR’s Gary Hogan Field. Though officials were determined to wait it out the storms brought lightning, thunder and such heavy rain that the artificial turf infield at the field as well as the grass outfield was mostly under water.
As a result, officials decided to postpone the game. It is tentatively set to be played at the UALR facility at 1 p.m., on Monday but other contingencies were being considered in case more storms complicated the situation.
The World Series, which is played in Shelby, N.C., begins on Thursday, Aug. 11. The Mid-South champion will open play on Friday, Aug. 12, at 11:30 a.m., against Western Regional champion, San Mateo, Calif.
