MORRILTON — A shot in the lane with five seconds left to play rimmed out for the Bryant Lady Hornets and the result was a disappointing 43-42 loss to the Greenbrier Lady Panthers on Wednesday in the first round of the Morrilton Invitational Tournament.
Bryant had defeated the Lady Panthers at Greenbrier the previous week, 48-40.
Tierra Trotter scored 10 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Lexie Taylor and Kalia Walker added 7 each with Robyn Gordon getting 5. Celena Martin scored 3 points with India Atkins and Mekeycia Baker contributing 2 apiece.
The Lady Hornets were 8 of 17 from the free-throw line.
They took an 11-9 lead by the end of the first quarter but then scored just 2 points in the second period as Greenbrier surged to a 21-13 lead.
It was 30-23 going into the fourth quarter when the Lady Hornets revved up the offense and whittled the lead to 1 with a shot to win.
Bryant will play again tonight at 6:30 p.m., in the tournament with another rematch, against a Clarksville team that defeated them 56-39 at the Crabtree Invitational Tournament in Bentonville on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
