LITTLE ROCK — A day after their thrilling win over Conway White, the Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School returned to play in the Wildcat Classic at Episcopal Collegiate Academy and[more] suffered a 26-23 loss to Little Rock Christian.
The team includes Jake Acord, Austin Green, Ryan Hall, Jason Hastings, Brushawn Hunter, Andrew Kincaid, Blaine Knight, Brian Tackett, Paul Tierney, Brandon Warner, John Winn, Mark Winn, Dylan Wolfe and Brendan Young.
The game was tied at 23 in the final seconds. Little Rock Christian hit a 25-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to win it.
“We came out flat and very lethargic,” related Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “I feel that last night's game against Conway took a lot from this team. We missed a lot of baskets that we usually make.“Credit to (LR Christian) for the win,” he added.
The Hornets, now 6-4 on the season, trailed 5-0 at the end of the first quarter and 12-7 at the half. The second half started better as they came back to grab a 16-15 lead going into the fourth.
Warner was the top scorer for Bryant Blue with 7 points. John Winn added 6, Mark Winn 5, Hastings 4 and Hall 1.
The Hornets’ next outing will be at Cabot South on Monday at 6 p.m.
