LITTLE ROCK — While Conway again proved to be the top dog (or Wampus Cat) in the field, the Bryant Lady Hornets finished a strong[more] third at the 2011 Central Arkansas Season-ending Invitational swim meet on Saturday, Jan. 29. The meet featured six schools from the 7A/6A-Central Conference and Conway compiled 352 points. Little Rock Central was second at 272 edging the Lady Hornets who had 264.
Cabot was fourth at 223 followed by Arkansas Baptist (220), Magnolia (186), Mount St. Mary (174), North Little Rock (83), Pulaski Academy (55), Little Rock Christian (51), Valley View (36) and Little Rock Parkview (3).
Once again, sophomore Jinson Kang rose to the occasion, winning the 200 individual medley (2:19.43) and the 100 freestyle (57.58). She also provided a leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay which finished second, just seconds behind Cabot’s winning performance. Emily Dabbs, Amanda Butler and Erin Moser combined with Kang to finish in 4:18.99. Cabot turned in a 4:14.67.
In the 200 medley relay, Dabbs, Courtney Wells, Kang and Moser teamed up for a 2:15.49 clocking to take fourth. In the 200 freestyle relay, Kelsie Vaughn, Mollie Robinson, Courtney Wells and Butler garnered sixth-place points with a time of 2:07.88.
Individually, the Lady Hornets had three swimmers score in six different events. Along with Kang in the 200 IM, Jordan Martin was 12th (3:01.29) and Robinson was 15th (3:18.02); and, in the 100 free, Mikayla Douglas was 14th (1:21.49) and Catarena Falco 15th (1:22.13).
Martin’s 6:42.77 was good for a fifth-place finish in the 500 free with Vaughn right behind her in sixth (7:02.99) and Deidre Reeves 10th in 9:43.87.
Dabbs took sixth (1:13.88), Moser seventh (1:17.84) and Shelby Burchfield 12th (1:42.36) in the 100 butterfly. Dabbs also led a trio of scorers in the 50 free with a time of 29.45 garnering eighth-place points. Moser was ninth (29.84) and Butler 10th (29.95).
Wells added a top 10 finish in the 200 free, taking 8th in a time of 2:33.47. Burchfield was 11th in 2:48.19 and Lauren Wood 14th in 2:49.67. In the 100 yard breast stroke, Wells was 15th (1:33.82) and Butler 16th (1:37.08).
Wood and Robinson scored in the 100 back stroke. Wood’s 1:26.18 clocking was good for 12th with Robinson 14th in 1:27.92.
The Hornets will return to competition this Saturday, Feb. 5, at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia.
