FAYETTEVILLE — The Bryant Lady Hornets traveled to Fayetteville Saturday to compete in the Chile[more] Pepper Cross Country Festival, which is one of the largest cross country invitationals in the country. The senior girls’ high school field contained 54 teams and 410 individuals.
South Lake Carroll, Texas won the team title with a score of 22 points. Bryant finished 15th with 503 points. The Lady Hornets were the seventh team from Arkansas and the fifth team from class 7A.
Senior Hannah Raney was Bryant’s top runner finishing 27th place in 19:42. She was sixth among Arkansas runners. Melinda Murdock took 48th with a time of 20:17. Talyn Billins was 103rd in 21:05. Caitlyn Bell (170th, 21:55) and Lauren Ackley (215th, 22:28) finished out Bryant’s scoring five.
Other finishers for Bryant were Marley Adams (275th, 23:29), Alyssa Cordova (278th, 23:32), and Kat Bolton (287th, 23:40).
“I was proud of our overall effort today,” stated Lady Hornets coach Danny Westbrook. “The conditions were not ideal and it was a huge field. I thought Hannah gave an outstanding effort and her performance proved that she is one of the top runners in the state.”
The Lady Hornets will wrap up the regular season next Saturday at the Lake Hamilton Invitational which will be held at Oaklawn Park. The 7A-West Conference meet at Rogers follows on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
