FOUNTAIN LAKE — After narrow victories in the first two games, the Bryant Lady Hornets closed out their season-opening volleyball match in stride, beating the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras, 3-0, on Tuesday night.
Bryant prevailed 25-23, 25-23, 25-11. In a junior varsity match, the Lady Hornets knocked out a 2-0 win, 25-12, 25-12.
“We had a hitting percentage of 13.6 percent and a kill percentage of 34.1 percent,” noted Bryant interim coach Lawrence Jefferson. “Whitney Brown and Abby Staton got some good digs and returned serve well tonight. The girls continue to work hard and improve each day.”
The Lady Hornets travel to Rogers to play the Heritage High School team on Thursday.
Allie Anderson led Bryant with 11 kills. Kendall Selig added five including three in the final game. Nikki Clay pitched in with two, Britney Sahlmann one. Sahlmann came through with 28 assists as the primary setter for the Lady Hornets. She also served for 14 points in the match. Clay, who served for seven points in the first game finished with 12, Selig 11. Anderson had six service points and Savannah Shelton 4, all in the second game.
In the JV match, Sarah Kennedy contributed 11 service points in the first game. Shayla McKissock had nine in the game two with Dejai Kelley adding six. Kennedy and Shelton had three assists apiece.
