The Bryant Lady Hornets junior varsity team put together a 22-3 run in the first half on the way to burying their counterparts from Little Rock Central Tuesday night, 61-31.
Casey Lee led the team with 15 points and seven rebounds. Callie Hogancamp added 10 points, four boards and three assists. London Abernathy scored 9 points and Regan Barker 8. Both added six rebounds. Point guard Taylor Neal dished out six assists.[more]
Though they never trailed, the Lady Hornets led just 9-8 going into the final minute of the first quarter. But Abernathy hit a jumper from the corner the made a steal and layup at the buzzer to start the game-breaking blitz.
The Lady Hornets led 13-8 going into the second period. Central managed a free throw but then Bryant forced a series of turnovers and took advantage. Hogancamp hit a layup, Kayla Sory nailed a driving jumper, Barker popped a jumper from the corner and Lee scored inside. When Sory added a free throw, the lead had grown to 22-9.
It was 24-11 before Barker made a steal and layup, Abernathy produced a three-point play and Lee grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to complete the run. Bryant led 31-11.
It was 31-12 at the half. The teams traded points in the third quarter until, with 3:13 left, Brittney Ball hit a layup to start a 9-0 run. Hogancamp hit a short jumper, Neal drove for a basket then Ball and Neal added free throws to make it 46-15, the largest lead of the game.
Central whittled it down to 46-20 going into the fourth quarter.
The margin was never less than 24 the rest of the contest.
