Getting on the field and facing some opposition from out of town were welcome sights for the Bryant Lady Hornets when they hosted a jamboree on Saturday at Bryant Stadium.
In 40 minutes against Cabot, the Lady Hornets prevailed 3-0 and in another 40 with Valley View, they came out on top, 4-2.
“The girls showed some good things and things we still need to work on,” said Lady Hornets coach Julie Long. “I thought overall, the experience was beneficial for what we needed. It got some nerves out and showed me some of our weaknesses as well as our strengths.”
The Lady Hornets are scheduled to open the 2015 season officially on Tuesday at Quigley-Cox Stadium against Little Rock Central.
“I know this group will rise to the challenge and be ready to accept whatever I put in front of them,” added Long.
In the scrimmage against Cabot, Britney Sahlmann, Anna Lowery and Allison Hughes had goals. Sahlmann scored at the 9:09 mark off an assist from Lowery. Kendall Selig assisted on Lowery’s goal at 3:26 then Caroline Campbell fed Hughes for the final goal at 2:22.
Keeper Maddie Hawkins had a save on one of only two shot attempts by the Lady Panthers.
Against Valley View, a strong Class 5A progam in the Jonesboro area, Campbell came through with three goals including one in the first five minutes of action. It came off an assist from Hadley Dickinson.
The Lady Blazers tied it with a goal at the 20:58 mark but Campbell struck again off an assist from Lowery at 15:55 then, less than a minute later, fed Hughes for a goal that made it 3-1.
Lowery assisted Campbell on the final Bryant goal at 4:45. Valley View tacked on a final goal in the last two seconds.
