VAN BUREN — Again it was tight but, after another long road trip, the Bryant Lady Hornets absorbed a tough loss to the Van Buren Lady Pointers, 19-25, 23-25, 25-15, 24-26, in a 7A/6A-Central Conference match on Thursday.
The Lady Hornets had previously lost a similarly close match at Greenwood in the spread out league, which also includes Russellville, Alma and Siloam Springs.
“It was a close match with both team playing hard,” said Bryant coach Lawrence Jefferson. “We struggled with our passing and our hitting. Van Buren has a good team.”
Kendall Selig finished with nine kills and Allie Anderson had eight. Mercedes Dillard added seven and Britney Sahlmann six. Sahlmann finished with 25 assists. Whitney Brown came up with 25 digs, Sahlmann 11 and Madison Greeno 10.
At the service line, Brown was 11 for 11, Sahlmann was good on all 16 of her serves with two aces. Selig had 14 good serves, Abby Staton 10 with an ace. Anderson also contributed an ace along the way.
In a junior varsity match, Bryant prevailed 25-12, 25-22 led by Riley Hill’s five kills.
Now 4-4 overall and 1-2 in league play, the Lady Hornets host Russellville on Tuesday.
