If the pattern holds, the Bryant Lady Hornets should win tonight when they open play in a tournament in Morrilton against the Greenbrier Panthers. Bryant has won every other game so far this season and stands at 3-3. Since they’re coming off a 62-30 loss against the undefeated Bentonville Lady Tigers on Friday, they should earn a victory.
Of course, it never really works that way for more than a couple of weeks so nothing’s certain except that the Lady Panthers will be trying to avenge a 48-40 loss to the Lady Hornets on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
The winner will play on Friday at 7 p.m., against the winner of the Morrilton-Clarksville contest with the losers meeting on Thursday, at 7 p.m.
Bryant has been led in scoring by several different players this season. The young team is paced by juniors Kalia Walker and Robyn Gordon with a large, talented group of sophomores. The up-and-down nature of their results is an indication of the youthful search for consistency but they’ve shown flashes of excellence in every contest. Coach Brad Matthews said they’ve been working in practice on extending those stretches.
Following the tournament, the Lady Hornets will play their lone home game of the fall semester, hosting the Benton Lady Panthers in the annual Saline County Shootout on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
